The Loupe Server requires a software license to use after the initial evaluation period.  You can purchase a license online at OnLoupe.com.  Each license includes a 25 character license key that will need to be entered into the Loupe Server Administrator.

Evaluation Period

To evaluate Loupe Server, you'll need to get a free limited duration trial key online at OnLoupe.com. Once your trial expires the Loupe Server will stop receiving or distributing data.  You can request an extension to your trial if you need more time to complete your evaluation.

Entering and Activating your Key

When prompted, you can enter your 25 character key.  Typically this key looks like this:

N89KM-UE3FG-8N8JE-9Q2G2-EK6Y3

You can enter the key without the dashes, or with spaces instead of the dashes.  As the key is entered, it'll be reformatted to match our standard key format for your convenience.  When the key has been completely entered, a few integrity checks will be run to check for accidental keying or transcription errors.  If the key appears to be a possible key, a green check will be displayed.  Otherwise, verify each character carefully.  To minimize the chances of it being miss-entered, keys do not include the letters O or I or the numbers 0 or 1. 

Once a valid key has been entered, it needs to be activated.  This activation process communicates with the licensing servers at Gibraltar Software to verify the key and record some information about its use.  This is important because it allows you, the owner of the license key, to know where your key is being used and the ability to control its use.

Once your key has been activated you can host Loupe Server on that server without any further communication with the Gibraltar Software license servers being required.  If you make significant changes to your computer or reinstall Loupe it may require that you reactivate the license.

Periodic Licensing Contact

Loupe Server will periodically check back with the licensing server silently in the background if a network connection is available (not more than once every 24 hours).  During this check:

• If you have purchased more user licenses or extended your maintenance the local activation will be updated.
• If the license key has been revoked or the specific computer running Loupe Desktop has been blocked by the license owner then the license will be deactivated.

If no network connection is available Loupe Server will continue to run indefinitely.  There is no requirement for network connectivity once Loupe Server has been activated.
